SCENE  5 –  A split stage showing the sleeping rooms of  John and Tanya.  John, in pajamas, tries to seal Elena's scarf into a manila envelope, but keeps removing it and holding it lovingly against his face. In another room TANYA sits on a broomstick laid between two chairs.

TANYA  (musing to herself.)

Who would imagine that a demon like me,. who had sworn a vow of eternal celibacy, would be willing to break that vow…for a priest!  I could visit him at night in his sleep, but I want the man I love to know me, and love me, and know in his heart that I love him.

John kneels in prayer.  Tanya takes the envelope, stuffs the scarf into it, licks it shut and lays it on the table.  JOHN crosses himself, arises, and removes the cross which he wears on a chain around his neck.  Invisible TANYA  takes his hand.  Time stops for him as she invisibly leads him gently in a dance.

JOHN gets into bed.  TANYA walks though the “wall,” takes the cross and chain gingerly in her fingers and puts the chain around his neck.  Then she gets into the bed next to him and draws the covers up.  Darkness.
